The Fine Arts Department is offering a unique opportunity to all of its students and the local community to travel through both time and space to a thousand years ago to the land of Scotland as Macbeth, the play by William Shakespeare, is brought to life. The Scottish moors are stained with blood as the king is murdered and lords and thanes struggle to find who will next fill his place. Over all is Macbeth who, with his wife, is the only one who knows what has truly happened and will soon taste the fruits of his own curse. Who will rule when all is said and done?

While Shakespeares most famous work is of questionable historical accuracy, it still brings to life many of the struggles we still encounter today within ourselves, albeit in an older time and place. Who will get power, and why do they deserve it? Why do people do what they do? As the characters struggle with others in the play they also struggle with themselves some seeing ghosts and others growing more and more psychotic as their time draws to an end.

For many of us we have never been in a play of this magnitude before which leads to new actors finding talents that they did not know they had. The simple act of learning lines has become very difficult as we adopt the original language of the play and struggle to put modern meaning to phrases as well as feeling and emotion to the world of long ago.

Many of the students involved feel as if they are an integral part in the making of LSSU history as for the first time a play of this size has been acted out on our stage. Not to mention one of such historical and cultural value. They are proud to be a part of carrying on the tradition started by Shakespeare almost four hundred years ago as well as starting our own tradition of bringing life to his works at LSSU.
