Slither, which has recently been released on DVD, is a thrilling story of alien invaders! The movie is a horror film that never takes itself too seriously. Its got everything a Sci-Fi/Horror/Comedy fan could ever wish for. Hilarious one-liners, zombie-slaying action, an alien invasion and more bizarre gore than you can shake a stick at.

Slither takes place in a small southern town during the opening of deer season. A basketball-sized meteorite lands in the forest and, once being discovered, lets loose an alien slug which body-snatches a local man. Strange disappearances start taking place and the local man becomes more and more erratic. Finally all hell breaks loose as they discover hes been taken over by an alien being and he intends on conquering the world!

Nathan Fillion of Firefly and Serenity fame stars as local police chief Bill Pardy. He is the leader of the group of survivors who attempts to stop the alien invasion by stopping it at the source. He plays the part wonderfully and adds a ton of hilarious moments to the script.

The visuals of Slither are excellent as well as everything else. Computer generated imagery(CGI) is used sparingly but when they did it is a short visual feast. CGI is also used in addition to the make-up and prop effects which blend perfectly. Many of the scenes are incredibly gory and even down right disturbing.

Overall the movie was a fun excursion into classic 1950s horror and sci-fi. It borrowed heavily from earlier films like The Blob and Invasion of the Body Snatchers but breathed new life into the formula. The 95 minutes flew by in a frenzy of excitement, alien slugs, and zombies. It was entertaining in its entiretywhich is somewhat of a rarity nowadays.

Bottom line:

Get this movieno matter the cost. If you dont have the 20 bucks to spend on it, become a stripper and collect tips until you do. Hey, we all have to pay the mortgage somehow.
