If you werent there last week for the annual Snowman burning held by Lake State to welcome the coming spring than you missed a Lake State tradition at its best. Although, if you were there you may have noticed something different, it may have been the way the ashes were slowly and elegantly floating into peoples drinks and hotdogs or how for the first day of Spring it was rather cold. What it really was, was the lack of a virgin sacrifice during the burning which has happened every year until this year.

Apparently Lake State is running out of virgins to sacrifice in the snowman burning ritual. Talking to one informant who usually supplies the virgins they say and I quote We find it quite disturbing not having a virgin to wrap up and sacrifice in the snowman this year for the burning, but perhaps next year. Apparently they havent had such a shortage in virgins since 1996 which was the last time the Lakers made an appearance in the CCHA playoffs, there seems to be a connection but further research is needed.

So whats Lake State to do now? With the increasing availability of contraception to college students many people who hold the snowman burning to heart are a bit upset. Talking with one snowman burning veteran and enthusiast they say Yah know, we look forward to next years freshmen for eligible virgins due to the fact that as most college students go in their career there becomes less and less virgins. Its too bad yah know, eh?

What is to happen next year? They will continue to do the snowman burning like they have done in the past. The hot dogs will be the same and the drinks will be either too strong or watered down, but at least there is a snowman to burn.
