Having trouble with classes? Feeling behind already? The Learning Center, located in the basement of the library is always there to help you out. The Learning Center provides, among other things, success seminars, supplemental instruction, drop-in math and writing centers, and certified tutors.

Split up into five basic sections, the Learning Center is an excellent place to get the help you desire. Success Seminars are held all throughout the school year and are designed to help students improve their grades. A few of the seminars are as follows: Effective note-taking techniques, preparing for tests and exams, dealing with test anxiety, effective study skills, and stress management.

Supplemental Instruction will give you an opportunity to prepare for tests and exams, improve upon your grades, and learn difficult material. Students who have completed the course work, and are approved by the professor lead the sessions of Supplemental Instruction.

Peer tutoring also helps you develop skills and master difficult course work by working with other students. Your peers will help you learn strategies to succeed, improve your grades, learn test preparation techniques and much more. Because your peers have gone through all of this before, they are an excellent source for help.

In the math center, you can bring your assignments and materials right to the center, and get the help you desire. Either by working in groups or by getting individual help, the well-trained staff can assist you with any problem. The staff is well prepared to help with one question or with your whole assignment.

The writing center is a good place to go if you need ideas or if you need help organizing your paper. The staff in the writing center can help proof read your work and give tips on how to make it better. The Learning Center is a valuable place and can lend a hand to any one who is in need. For more information, call the Learning Center at 635-2849, or visit them on the web at www.lssu.edu/lc.
