With spring break only a month away, students normally have their destination already chosen. On the other hand, there might be a few (like me) who procrastinate or enjoy a spur of the moment trip. We all know the big spots (Cancun, Daytona, Miami, Orlando, and Key West to name a few) but if you want to be a little closer to home, have an adventure, or go somewhere unusual, then keep reading, because Ive compiled a list of unusual spring break options.

Spring Break Option One:

Take a left turn road trip. Gather a group of friends up, get in a car, and just drive. Its basically just a road trip, but when you cant decide which way to go, just turn left. You never know where youll end up, and thats the beauty of it; hidden along the side roads are many tourist traps, and youll never know what youll find. This left turn road trip will create many stories and inside jokes that youll be able to tell for years to come.

Spring Break Option Two:

Go somewhere cold rather than warm. Many of us love snow boarding, skiing, and snowmobiling. Head over to Bear Paw Ski Bowl in Rudyard, Montana, for skiing and snow boarding, and then over to Marias Pass for a 38 mile snowmobiling path. There are many options for cold weather fun all over the country as well as here in Michigan.

Spring Break Option Three:

A little strapped for cash? Stay closer to home. In other words, be a tourist in your own town. Growing up in Holland, MI I had always thought of it being a small, boring town. When I came up here to the Sault, Holland did not look so small anymore. We have museums, sledding, winter activities, and a mall. Check out some things that maybe youve done, but had thought about at one time.

Spring Break Option Four:

Check out some cool places within Michigan. Recently I visited the Michigan Fire house Museum in Ypsilanti, MI. It was really neat, and I enjoy looking at old fire engines and fire equipment. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone who is also interested in fire. There are many other options, all you have to do is type Michigan Hot Spots into a search engine, and many options will appear.

Spring Break Option Five:

If your really strapped for cash, you can always have fun at home. Sleeping is always a great thing to catch up on during spring break, and it doesnt cost anything (unless youre at a hotel). You can always catch up on homework, or since I know were all great students, we can get ahead on our homework and reading.

I hope for those you who do not have your spring break planned that this list may have helped in your decision. If you already know what your doing for spring break, then I hope you just enjoyed reading this, and maybe got an idea for a summer trip, or even next years spring break. I encourage everyone that after spring break is over and youve had your fun, write to us at The Compass and let us know what you did (especially if it was one of these options) and share a story with us about your break. Who knows, it might just end up in the paper.
