At Lake Superior State University, incoming students will have a diverse range of programs, courses, and activities to choose from. LSSU offers fifty-five Bachelor Degree programs, twenty-two Associate Degrees, and five Certificates. On top of going for a regular degree, students have a choice of seventy-seven different minors to study.

Currently, LSSU is well-renown for its Fire Science, Nursing, Fisheries and Wildlife Management, Criminal Justice, Education, and Manufacturing Engineering Technology programs.



In the Fire Science program, students are provided with the needed certification to enter the fire service with the knowledge and the background necessary for advancement to higher positions within the career. Students may choose from different paths of study such as Fire Science Generalist, Fire Science Hazardous Materials, or Fire Engineering Technology. Career options include Fire Fighter, Fire Safety Officer, Fire Protection Systems Designer, Hazardous Materials Specialist, Fire Officer/Chief Officer, and Emergency Planner and many others.



Students in the Fisheries and Wildlife Management programs study the relationship between organisms and their habitat. They will work in class, laboratories, and in the field to gain the practical skills and experience necessary to meet the qualifications of State and Federal Natural Resources agencies. Students can choose to concentrate in just Fisheries, Wildlife, or lean towards both. Career options in this field include Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist, Fisheries Biologist, and Wildlife Biologist.



In the Education program, students earn a bachelors degree and then, to become certified, participate in a one-year teaching internship with accompanying graduate course work. While working toward completion of a major, students must take the first two teacher education courses and then apply for formal admission to the program. Positions include Elementary Teacher, School Administrator, School Counselor, Educational Consultant, Trainer and Secondary Teachaer.



In the Criminal Justice programs, students choose from one of six concentrations, Corrections, Criminalistics, Generalist, Law Enforcement, Loss Control, and Public Safety. Students must also complete an internship and a senior project. Various job opportunities are Police Officer, Probation Officer, Conservation Officer, Public Safety Officer, Criminal Investigator, and Evidence Technician



The Nursing programs blends an understanding of science, social sciences and humanities combined with a kind heart to help those in need. Nursing students may choose to obtain their degree in nursing through the four-year, pre-licensure program or the two-year, completion program for the registered nurse. Career options include Hospital Nursing, Home Care Nursing, School Nursing, and Public Health Nursing.



In the Manufacturing Engineering Technology program, students must learn from a wide range of study such as science, math, computers, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, management and economics. Students working to earn their Bachelors Degree may choose to specialize in robotics or automation. Since LSSU is home to one of the best robotics educational programs in the U.S., graduates will have nearly 100% job placement with high ranging salaries. Job options include Process Control Engineer, Robotics Engineer, Maintenance Technologist, Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, Production Technologist, and Automation Engineer.
