Mark, a 2004 Lake State Sociology graduate, passed away November 14, 2006. The many people whose lives he touched mourn his passing.

Mark cared about his school work and he cared about people. The enthusiasm he has for his studies was infectious, and his support and assistance to other students was exemplar. He was outgoing, warm, ambitious and a great friend according to fellow students. He was always available when you had a question or needed to talk.

When not studying he could be found in Cappuccino Corner at the table he must have rented by the semester, where he appeared so often. He was always surrounded by his colleagues, helping people with their studies, laughing with them and debating issues. Much in demand, he was President of the Sociology Club and of the Environmental Awareness Club at the same time. Through all of this Mark wasnt about Mark, he was about serving and helping other people.

In his neighborhood he helped people who had health or mobility problems and they grew to count on his cheerful presence, listening ear and assistance with daily tasks. He was a wonderful father to his teenage son, Ben, who is now a student at LSSU.

After graduating, Mark moved downstate and continued his studies in a post graduate project, doing volunteer work helping youthful patients with diabetes and continuing his preparation for employment in human services.

Mark struggled throughout his life with severe diabetes, the condition to which he eventually succumbed. Many people he associated with did not realize he had such serious health difficulties because he was so positive and outgoing and so readily engaged in others concerns. When approached by others, he looked them right in the eye and gave them his full attention.

We will miss Mark. He made the world a warmer, friendlier place.
