On Friday, November 3, the LSSU Fisheries & Wildlife Club held its annual Wild Game Dinner for students, staff, and community members. The clubs members donated game meat from their hunting and fishing trips for the dishes served. The dinner was a great success with 105 people in attendance. A raffle and silent auction were also being held throughout the dinner.

Club President, Bryan Engelbert said, Proceeds from this event will go to help the club pay for its members to attend the Midwest Fish & Wildlife Conference this year to be held in Omaha, NE, on the week of December 3, and the other conferences to come.

According to Engelbert, the importance of attending the Midwest Fish & Wildlife Conference is that it will help enrich the students understanding of the field, see active studies in fisheries and wildlife, and advance their careers in the management of natural resources through intermixing and networking with professionals.

While the dinner was taking place inside the warm Huron Room of the Cisler Center, a few volunteers bundled up and braved the cold to cook and grill the various meat dishes to be served inside. The cooks whipped up a variety of creative and unusual dishes such as: Tater Tot Caribou Casserole, Moose Meatloaf, Goose Ka-bobs, Cajun Catfish, Bacon Goose Bits, Squirrel Stew, BBQ Bear with Dr. Reoses special BBQ sauce, Swedish Moose Meatballs, Duck Gumbo, Munoscong Duck Surprise, Venison Stir-fry, Snapping Turtle, Moose & Wild Rice Casserole, and Salmon Patties.

When asked about what where the most unusual meats ever served, Engelbert said, I would have to say beaver, raccoon, squirrel, and snapping turtle.

On display for the silent auction were four items: a two-person Layout Duck Hunt with a Fisheries & Wildlife member, a Garmin GPS unit, two jars of Crazy Roeses famous BBQ sauce, and a marble chess set with the chess pieces resembling various game animals.
