The critics hate it, the fans love it. Thats how it goes with most big hits in media including movies, books, and music. However, being somewhat of a fan of The Killers myself, I was anticipating a bit more from these guys on their follow-up to Hot Fuss. I didnt expect to find the album sounding so similar to their first project. While the songs are catchy and they ring true to the Killers unique sound, I was a bit bored with the product as a whole.

The Killers came out as a pop, synthesized catchy music group with somewhat emo-inspired lyrics. Now theyre trying to spread their wings and grow up. What happened to the makeup that we loved in the beginning? What happened to the eccentric movements and crazy videos? Theyve ditched their eyeliner, eccentric clothes, eye popping colors, and other oddities that made them stand out from everyone else. All of that was traded in for cowboy themed clothing, conservative haircuts, and muted colors. What was so bad about their breakout debut that they felt they needed to revamp their image? Maybe Im being a bit too harsh. I just dont want to see these guys go in the same direction that many preceding bands have gone doing the same type of reformation. I think they have too much talent and I dont want to see a bad thing ruined for some vain discrepancies.

The album on the whole is a decent project. The songs are catchy and are great for that long road trip many of us have to get back home. So if youre looking for something new and different, go grab the album and throw it in the CD deck on your way home for Turkey Day.
