Every Wednesday night at Lisa and Lindsey's two-bedroom place in the Ashmun Creek Apartments, the feasting would start around 7 p.m. Lisa Lin Bock would start cooking around 4 p.m. for the crowd that showed up. Nearly all of the visitors who came were male Lake Superior State University students.

One Wednesday night, more than 20 hungry young men were fed. That was the night that Lisa and Lindsey found some crab meat on sale and broke the bank to provide their friends with the delicacy.

Tonight, some 300 LSSU students, friends and family gathered on campus for a candlelight vigil in memory of Lisa, who died last Thursday in an automobile accident at the intersection of Ashmun and Leroy. They talked about Lisa as the "mom" of LSSU - the business senior who tirelessly cooked, tutored and solved problems for her fellow students. They talked about her great love of dancing and her even greater love of embarrassing those she loved most with practical jokes.

They remembered how she always managed to look great in stiletto heels, even in the middle of an Upper Peninsula winter. And of course, there was a lot of talk tonight about those feasts in the Ashmun Creek Apartments. Lisa was known for her culinary abilities, with her green bean casserole considered somewhat of a campus legend.

Price McAllister has said that the Wednesday-night gang has decided to continue the tradition in Lisa's memory. So far, no one's sure who will do all the advance work that Lisa did. Or prepare the green bean casserole. But the group is agreed that the gatherings should continue.

Also tonight, many of those attending signed a big "get-well" card for Chris Winkler, the engineering student who was riding in Lisa's car when the crash occurred. Winkler was also injured, but managed to get to tonight's memorial service. He'll be resting at home as the swelling subsides and was expected to return on Thursday to Petoskey for surgery.
