The Lady Lakers proved Saturday why they deserve to be in the top of the GLIAC standings by defeating the Warriors of Wayne State. Neither team showed superior dominance over the other as the game began, yet when the Lakers took the lead, there was no looking back. Monica Rehmann gave the Warriors trouble in the first half with tough defense and the ability to move the ball. Wayne State looked as if they had more power down low but numbers to not prove this. The Lady Lakers out rebounded the Warriors in the first half.

As the second half got underway, the Lakers held a ten point lead, 41 to 31. Both Laker and Warrior players showed how bad they wanted the win. LSSU came out in a fast paced offense that forced Wayne State to foul to slow play down. Jackie Armstrong and Ronlea Peterson helped the Lakers by shooting over 90% from the free throw line. Though WSU showed life in the second climbing back from a 19 point defect twice, their ball work did not help their attempts. The Lakers stole the ball 6 times in the second half. Although the Lakers had begun to run away with the lead near the end of the game, the excitement did not disappear. At times the game looked as if it was a wrestling match as players scrambled on the floor toppling over each other fighting for the ball. Wayne States Rebecca Meyer fouled out late in the game taking a toll on the Warriors ability to get rebounds.

The Lakers proved themselves too much for Wayne State as they defeated the Warriors 80 to 62.Monica Rehmann and Jackie Armstrong led the Lakers with 15 points each. Ronlea Peterson followed with 11, and Danilelle Matkins and Mandi Johnson scored 10 each.
