Greetings Lakers & welcome to an exciting year at Lake Superior State University!

I hope that all of you enjoyed your first week here and are looking forward to a great year, both in and out of the classroom. Lake State has a great deal to offer and I am thrilled to be a member of your community. If I didnt have the chance to meet you at one of the Laker Week activities, I hope that I will have that opportunity soon.

Student Activities & Leadership Development (SALD) is the new title for the office formerly known as Student Life. This year, SALD hopes to offer a wide variety of leadership and involvement opportunities through student organizations and events, as well as a new venturea satellite volunteer center in partnership with United Way of Chippewa County. More information on the volunteer center will be coming soon, but for now, please take advantage of all that SALD has to offer.

With over 50 student groups available, from Greek Life and student governance to sports and recreation clubs, there is something for everyone. And, if you havent found the right group for youstart your own! The first step is coming in to SALD and spending 15 minutes talking with me about your goals for the group. After that, Ill help you get started on the path to being a recognized student organization.

In addition to student organizations and events, Lake State also has a strong Intramural (IM) sports program. Last year there were 12 intramural activities offered and were hoping to increase that number this year. If theres an activity you want to see, let us know. And, if youre interested in working as a referee or IM assistant, wed love to have you join our team. Look for more information on the IM program soon!

Most importantly, none of these things can happen without your input and involvement! I encourage you to come to events and to join a student organization. And, as Ive told many of you in the past week, your Student Activities & Media Fee pays for student eventsso spend your money wisely! Let us know what youd like to see on campus this year; we may not be able to do everything you ask for, but well sure try. Not sure when and where events are? Check out the poster-sized events calendar. Dont have one? Please stop by 125 Cisler Center (Campus Life office) and pick one up!

I wish all of you a very successful year and I hope to see you at one of the many events in the coming months!
