Comedy Comes to LSSU
John Petkus

On February 17, 2007, the Activities Board of LSSU sponsored a comedian to come all the way from New Jersey to the snows of Sault Ste Marie, and bring a great night of fun. As Jay Black stepped out on to the stage we all sat expectantly waiting for what would happen. As it turned out he really didnt need the stage and, acting like the coolest professor you have ever had, decided not to stand above his audience but instead walk right to the first row of chairs and start his routine.
Nothing was sacred as Jay began to tell us a little about himself, his recent marriage and his previous career as a teacher. The audience roared as he told of his reasoning for becoming a comedian and stressed how awkward it is sometimes when he compares himself to people with real jobs. He joked about everything from the environment to feminism and back again and treated us to some New Jersey style Comic Poetry ending the night with a great question and answer session where the audience could call out any question we wanted and he would respond.
All in all it was a great time to get out of the house and sit down for an hour for a lot of fun and some laughs. Mr. Black made a point to call the community Salt Saint Marie instead of Soo Saint Marie and asked the question that every one of us from the newest freshman to the oldest senior has posed, What is there to do around here? Well, not a whole lot which is why we need such an incredible Activities Board to sponsor more great events for us here on campus.
