Happenings in Student Government
Nov. 10th 2006

The Student Government meeting last week began at exactly 6:02 PM on Friday (its important to keep accurate times, for the minutes), and then got down to the business. Among the main issues facing the Student Government this meeting was a proposed revision of the school constitution the document that governs the happenings of all groups on campus, and of the students.
The worry was that the constitution has grown out of date, and is no longer applicable to current situations and evolving student interests, and it was even proposed that the document be entirely removed. While a full discussion did not ensue on the topic (this week), the President encouraged representatives to work with the document they have, and take amending the constitution as a preferred action, as opposed to throwing it out and rewriting the whole thing.
Other issues on the docket this week included increasing concerns about smoking near buildings, noise pollution, and the fact that the crosswalk leading across Easterday Ave. may not be the safest one possible. Also discussed were new methods for enticing students to participate in surveys (candy anyone?) and plans for the Turkey Bowl.
Bill Eiola also made an appearance toward the middle of the meeting, to discuss his plans for improving recruitment and retention at our school, and making sure people who will be interested in the unique experience up here at LSSU are well informed about their opportunities, and get a chance to speak with more current students, to get a better view of what things are around here.
