Dr. Alexei Iretski has been a professor at Lake State for five years but he has taught for over twenty years and spent all his life at different universities. He attended Institute of Technology in St. Petersburg, Russia and received his masters in Radiation Chemistry and his Ph. D in Inorganic Chemistry while he was there.
He currently teaches General Chemistry 115 and 116, Physical Chemistry 2 and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. Among those, his favorites to teach are Physical Chemistry 2 and Advanced Inorganic Chemistry because students already know something. Being able to see the evolution and development of students minds is his favorite part of teaching, while students who dont know why theyre in a class are his least favorite part.
Outside of university life, he enjoys traveling and does so often. He credits an experience in Paris, France as having a profound effect on his life. It was after writing my post doc. In Paris when suddenly I realized that before I had thought theres a huge gap between me and the top scientist in the world. After my post doc, I realized that theres still a gap but its closer and that I can reach it. That was significant for my self confidence. Finally, Dr. Iretski would like to tell students to try to think; think logically. Look at the world with open eyes and have your own opinion.
