Hot to Trot

Lake Superior State Universitys Cross Country and Track team held its first ever Turkey Trot, Saturday, November18, at 10am. It was a 5k run similar to the Fun Run that was sponsored by Lake States Alumni Association during Great Lake State Weekend. Registration for the activity was fifteen dollars before November 10th and twenty dollars after November 10. All money raised went to the teams funding for the costs to go to meets. Unlike the Fun Run the Turkey Trot was a speed race due to the difference in course layout.
The course layout for the Turkey Trot began in the Student Activity Center with a lap around the track and then on to the bike trail leading towards the baseball diamonds. On the way to the diamonds, runners ran down Fourth Street, which leads to the I-500 track, then down Eighth Street until the dead end and back to the diamonds. From the diamonds the runners had a straight shot back to the Norris Center where they did a final lap around the indoor track in the Student Activity Center.
Talking with Track and Field coach Steve Eles before the event, he commented This should be a nice and easy race. Organizers were hoping for a good turn out similar to that of the Fun Run hoped to see many people there getting ready for the holidays and keeping in mind not to eat too much without proper exercise. Thanksgiving is known for its indulgence of turkey, pies and mothers famous dish; the Turkey Trot is in one way someone can justify eating all that food. If you can run a 5k you more than deserve that turkey.
