LSSU VS U of M

If you werent at the Taffy Abel Arena last Friday night when Lake State took on the University of Michigan, you missed a pretty good game. The Lakers defeated the Wolverines by a score of 3-2 with most of the action taking place in the third period. The first goal of the game was scored by Danny Fardig, a left wing offensive player for U of M, at 16:33 in the first period. Penalties were called on Derek R. Smith, Troy Schwab and Derek A. Smith of the Lakers for hooking and contact to the head, elbowing, and holding the stick, respectively. Jack Johnson, David Rohlfs and Chris Summers were called for interference, hooking, and boarding for the Wolverines.

During the second period things began to heat up. Lake State got even with U of M when freshman Pat Aubry scored and tied the game at 1-1 at 7:00 with an assist from Barnabas Birkeland. Penalties werent as steep as the first period with Josh Sim and Derek R. Smith both called for hooking. Chris Summers and Travis Turnbull were called for slashing and hooking respectively on the Wolverine side. 

Things got interesting during the third period as Troy Schwab scored on the power play at 8:32 giving the Lakers some breathing room and a one goal lead. U of M tied it during a power play at 13:21 making the score 2-2. Josh Sim scored at 14:29 of the third giving the Lakers the 3-2 edge over U of M and the game-winning goal.

As for the Laker fans, they hosted a white out and the first 400 attendees were given white t-shirts with Lake State anchors on the front. Last Fridays game hosted the biggest crowd of fans seen this season totaling 3,234 fans in attendance.
