HOUGHTON - For the second time this season, the Lake Superior State women's tennis team knocked off a previously-unbeaten opponent.
On Saturday, the Lakers (3-0) edged Michigan Tech 5-4 and handed the Huskies their first loss in five outings this season. Two weeks ago, Wayne State brought a 3-0 record into the Lakers' home opener and dropped a 6-3 decision.
Among the deciding factors in the match were Celina Grondin's three-set victory at No. 1 singles, and a 7-1 tie-breaker win by Carolyn Pumford and Megan Smith at No. 3 doubles.
The Lakers return home to play host to Ferris State and Grand Valley State on Sept. 29 and 30, respectively.
