Lady Huskies Defeat Lakers
By Christopher Martlew

After coming off a big win Thursday against Northern Michigan, the women of LSSU were hungry for another GLIAC win. The Lakers were faced with another tough opponent in Michigan Tech. Coming into the game; both teams had birth into the Division 2 NCAA tourney, and are fighting for the number 2 seed in the GLIAC north division.
As the game began, the Huskies proved that they were ready to play, but the Lakers were not going to back down easy, only trailing by 1 or two points through out most of the first half. With five and a half minuets remaining in the first half, the Lady Lakers tied the game up at 24 with a jumper from Mandi Johnson, soon after the Lady Huskies went on a huge scoring run to close out the half at 37 to 26. The Lakers were playing well, but were having trouble scoring against the powerful MTU defense, and on the defensive side of the ball, were having trouble stopping the powerful MTU offense.
MTU opened he second half just as they had in the first. They were shooting the ball well from all over the court, and their defense seemed impossible to penetrate. Missed shots and a lack of rebounds continued to haunt to Lakers throughout much of the second half, as the Huskies continued to roll. As time wore down, LSSU looked crushed as they found out that the Huskies were going to hold on for the big win; and that they did.
The Lady Lakers fells to Michigan Tech 74 to 61. The Lakers were out shot from the free throw line and the three point line. Mandi Johnson totaled 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead Lake Superior State. Monica Rehmann added 14 points, and Jackie Armstrong had nine. The Lakers play host to SVSU this Wednesday at Bud Cooper Gym.
