MTU Is Too Much To Handle
By Christopher Martlew

Coming off a bitter loss to rival Northern Michigan two days before, the Laker men were ready for another chance at a sweep. The Lakers played host to Michigan Tech from the west side of the U.P. The Lakers had knocked off Tech earlier in the season, but as they learned from NMU, if you beat them once, you won't necessarily do it again.
As the first half began to unfold, both teams were playing well. Neither team could run up the score on the other. LSSU was working the ball around well and finding ways here and there to strike on MTUs well played defense. On the other side of the court MTU was doing just the same. LSSU found a short lived 5 0 run, making the score 20 to 15, but the Huskies of Tech came right back. Towards the end of the half, the Lakers began to dominate on defensive boards, giving them more looks at the basket. After a big three point shot from Mike Rader, and a field goal from Garret, the Lakers held a 1 point lead at half (27 to 26).
As the second half was underway the Lakers continued to hold onto a lead in this very close game. Ryan Kuhl continued to hit jumper after jumper, and Mark Moorse proved his dominance on the boards. Each time LSSU began to pull away, MTU fought hard to get back in the game. The Huskies finally took the lead 43 to 42 with 7 minutes left in the game. From then on their lead continued to slowly grow. The extremely tired Lakers fought hard to get back in the game, but time ran short closing the heartbreaking deal for the Lakers.
The loss dropped the Lakers to 5 and 10 in the conference. Ryan Kuhl led the Lakers with 21 points; Mark Moorse added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams totaled 35 boards.
