Crank

I went to see Crank at the local movie theater with low expectations. I heard very little about the film before seeing it. Apparently, theres this guy whose heart will stop unless he keeps adrenaline pumping constantly. Now, I dont know about you, but this sounds like a cheesy excuse for an action movie. And, after seeing it, I can tell you that my assumption was absolutely spot-on. And it was magnificent.

The movie opens with a cheesy, colorful, old-school video game logo with a beating heart reminiscent of old Atari games. We join the main character waking up and running around the house. He learns he was poisoned and only has about two hours to live. The only thing he wants before he dies: revenge. After trashing his television in a fit of rage, he hits the streets to hunt down those responsible and make them pay.

The entire film is an action-packed thrill ride with over-the-top actions and dialogue. He does anything and everything he can do to keep his heart beating. He chugs Red Bull, snorts cocaine, fights with a large group of gangsters, drives way too fast, rides a motorcycle naked and a large list of things that I cant repeat in this article.

Jason Statham plays Chev Chelios, the main character alongside his stoner girlfriend played by Amy Smart. His over-the-top acting really helps you enjoy the premise of the film and his interactions with his girlfriend are extremely humorous and memorable.

The film keeps the pace fast, the adrenaline pumping and the laughs rolling. All the different scenes flow into each other nicely and theres never any moment when the viewer is bored. This will be a cult classic for years to come.

If theres one movie you can see this year, make it this one.
