Student Government met January 31. After the approval of minutes, Dr. Ken Peress addressed the assembly, introducing himself as their new advisor. He is the new Vice President of Student Affairs and he hopes to do everything he can to support students. He explained that his office is in the basement of Cisler in order to be closer to students. After Dr. Peress introduction, President Hilary Kozma gave her report, stating that she is planning to hold a forum open to all students to informally discuss the Commissioned Officers proposal with Bill Whitman. Committee heads then gave their reports. Brandon Zajac, head of Student Services and Concerns, noted that he has a few concerns come to him and he is continuing to address them. Heather Youtzy, from Activities and Public Relations, reminded the assembly to sign up to sell tickets for the Searchmont ski trip and expressed her thanks to those who have been helping her. Amanda Burmeister, head of Political Action and University Development, announced that she will be launching a letter writing campaign and details will be forthcoming. Emory Nelkie, head of Discretionary Funding, stated that he had not received any funding requests that week.
The Student Services and Concerns committee had distributed an information gathering survey to students and according to Zajac, the responses will be passed along to the proper channels. There was no unfinished business and only one new resolution. Resolution 2007-06 was introduced by President Kozma and allocates $488.60 for Kozma and another assembly member to attend a Presidential Summit in Lansing. The funds are to pay for a hotel, meals and use of a state vehicle to get to the Summit. After some discussion, the resolution was voted on and passed 11-2. The meeting was adjourned a short time later.
