THE PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT

MARCH 26  APRIL 2, 2007


The Lake Superior State University Public Safety Department reports the following activity for the period of March 25 through April 2, 2007:

On Monday, March 26, a student came in to report his MP3 player was stolen while he was using the Norris Center.  The theft occurred while the complainant was shooting baskets in the Bud Cooper Gym.  

At 1100 on Monday, March 26, a woman came to the Public Safety Office to report an assault that had taken place earlier in the week.  She reported that she had been grabbed by a fellow student during a disagreement.  The investigation into the matter is on-going.

Officers received a theft report from an office in the Cisler Center on Tuesday, March 27.  An undisclosed amount of money was taken.  The incident remains under vacation.

Also on Tuesday, March 27, a faculty member came into the department to report an on-going harassment situation involving a student.

At 2339 on Wednesday, March 28, officers investigated a noise complaint in Osborn Hall.  The situation was remedied and no further action was taken.

On Thursday, March 29, a teenage, non-student was injured when a light bulb in a sauna at the Norris Center exploded.  Investigation revealed that the non-student and his friends were observed horsing around in the sauna.  Another individual stated that he believed the bulb exploded due to the actions of the kids.

Friday, March 30, officers were once again called upon to deal with a four-footed visitor to campus.  The dog, a Rottweiler, was escorted from campus to a house on Sheridan Drive where the owner was contacted about the situation.

A lamp was reported missing from Brady Hall on March 31.  The item was taken some time on Friday, the 30 or Saturday, the 31st.  The incident is under investigation.

In addition to the above actions, your Public Safety Department conducted the following routine activities:  45 weapons escorts, 46 room admits, 10 lost and found property reports, 7  motorist assists, and investigated 4 false alarms.  We also investigated 2 vehicle accidents and assisted maintenance 2 times with situations on campus.

Public Safety Tip of the Week:  Spring weather is deceiving.  While it may be warm during the day, the evenings and nights cool off considerably.  If you are planning on outdoor activities, please keep this in mind and dress accordingly.
