The New U at LSSU
By: Aaron Koptiz
There seems to be a lot of changes happening here at Lake State lately. If youre new to our lovely abode then you probably havent noticed all the new trays that the Quarterdeck purchased. Over two years they have thrown away tray after tray due to the increase of obscenities written on them. The trays that have bought are not only people resistant, unlike the previous trays, but they are also half the price of the old ones. So if an eager student or faculty member feels the need to lay down their word it wont be such a big deal to replace and maintain the quality of trays. For the curious, the old style of tray cost twenty dollars each, whereas the new trays run around ten dollars.
The University has new furniture in the Galley, Osborn Hall, Brady Hall, and the Village. This suave furniture was brought to you by the Housing Office, which feels it is time for a more modern look to our fair Lake State. The new furniture as well as the new theme in the Galley 155 is a part of a plan to bring a feeling of home to students and to make life on campus more comfortable.
The Housing office has also added two new pool tables to the Peacock Cove for those sharks out there looking to hone their skills and those guppies who, well, want to be sharks. If pool isnt your thing, Housing has added three new flat screen televisions for your viewing pleasure. There is currently one in the hallway to the Cove, one television in the Cove itself; and the third will soon arrive next to the pool tables.
Along with the new furniture and pool tables, the Galley has a new theme this year showing Grill 155. This is a new signature package, which brings new things to Lake State, like smoothie machines, gargantuan grilled sandwiches, and fresh, hand-made salads.
The Housing Office itself was relocated over the summer, moving from the basement of Brady Hall to the lower level of the Cisler Center in an effort to make the Cisler Center more of a one-stop-shop for students. Instead of having to go to Brady after lunch or dinner for Housing you can do it in one swift move and be on your merry way. The space formerly occupied by the Housing Office in the basement of Brady Hall is now a lounge space complete with wireless internet access and a quiet atmosphere. Osborn Hall has a similar study space for those not wishing to venture into Brady to study.
Many things have changed here at Lake State enabling students to keep up with the times, and there will be more to come. If you have questions or concerns about how these new changes are running dont be afraid to go talk to the people in the Food Service or the Housing Office. They appreciate any and all input.
