Prospective students invited to explore local options
January 31st, 2007
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. Lake Superior State University and the Canadian higher education institutions of Algoma University College and Sault College are offering Sault area residents from both sides of the border an opportunity to find out about a variety of post-secondary programs during a program in February.
Working together, the three are presenting "Three in One" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Sault College in Sault, Ont. The program is designed not only for students, but for parents and guidance counselors, also. Representatives from the three institutions will make presentations and answer questions about the various agreements, articulations and collaborations available.
"Sault Ste. Marie has so much to offer, more than one might expect at first glance," said Tanya Running, a Sault College recruitment officer. "Combine the direct entry programs with the collaborative diploma and degree offerings, and the Sault can offer huge opportunities for students to complete their education right here."
Fran Rose, dean of Health and Human Services at Sault College, said the initiative is in response to what local students asked for during education workshops held in the fall, sponsored by communications company Ontera and Osprey Media.
"Students are looking for more information. We want everyone to know how easy it is to move from one school to another in specific program areas. Whether students are looking for degree or diploma completion, we have our process aligned to provide great opportunities to our students and graduates."
During the Feb. 6 program, students may explore topics during sessions that include computer studies, law and criminal justice, health sciences, aviation flight/business, human services and teacher education. "Explore your options locally" will cover general topics of articulation and collaboration.
"We invite all prospective students from both sides of the international border to attend, get their questions answered and make informed decisions about where and what they'd like to study in the Sault Ste. Marie area," said Susan Camp, director of Admissions at LSSU.
