Too Tough
By Christopher Martlew

The arena was chilled, the crowd on their feet cheering as the name, Jeff Jakaitis, stretched over the sound system. It was Friday night, a hockey night at LSSU, and the Lakers were ready to play. Ohio State came in to Fridays match up with a 1 point lead in the CCHA standing over LSSU, and the Lakers were ready to change that.
The puck dropped and the game was away. The game started slow with the buckeyes eventually drawing first blood with a goal from Tom Fritsche. But a goal from Jeff Rainville tied it up at 1 in the second period. The Lakers were showing signs of trouble in slowing down the speed of Ohio State, but eventually grabbed a 2 to 1 lead late in the second period.
As the third period began, tempers began to flair as fights and small scuffles would break out on the ice nearly every time play was halted. Troy Shwab scored a nice backhand goal putting the Lakers ahead 3 to 1, but Ohio State came right back cutting the lead back down to 1. With under a minute left, Ohio State pulled goaltender Joe Palmer to attack the Lakers with six men on the ice. Josh Sim showed them that it wouldnt matter as he took a free puck down for a score, putting the securing the Laker victory.
The win on Friday night broke a 4 game losing streak, putting the Lakers ahead of Ohio State in the CCHA rankings. The Laker hockey team left the ice Friday night to the famous blasting foghorn and a standing ovation from their fans, looking forward to the next evenings rematch with the OSU buckeyes.
