From February 11 to February 16, Lake Superior State University celebrated its first Spirit Week with fun activities for athletes and the public to enjoy. This week-long fun-filled event was hosted by the LSSU Student-Athletic Advisory Committee.
The purpose of Spirit Week was to bolster camaraderie between all the Laker Varsity teams with a special theme or activity for every day throughout the week.
Kicking off the week was the Athlete Talent Show at the Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Sunday. The Varsity teams each showed off their talent with skits, songs, and dance routines. The winners of the talent show were the Softball team in first, Womens Tennis in second, and Mens Tennis in third.
Mondays theme was the all time favorite Crazy Hair Day were athletics and students could let loose and let their creativity fly.The athlete with the craziest hair could earn extra points for their team.On Tuesday, athletes were encouraged to dress up like Hawaiians. What better way to beat the cold this year, then this!
On Wednesday, everyone on campus showed their pride for our college on Laker Pride Day.Also, as a bonus, anyone who wore Laker gear or clothing to the Womens and Mens Basketball games against Saginaw State University received a free popcorn from the concession stand.
Thursdays theme had the longest title, Dress Like Your Favorite Laker Player or Coach Day. Hopefully nobody got mistaken for the wrong person!
Last but not least, Friday saw a Whiteout at the LSSU Lakers versus Michigan Wolverines hockey game. All students were encouraged to wear white to show everyone from the University of Michigan how much we support our teams! Also, the first four-hundred college students to arrive at the hockey game received special Whiteout shirts to commemorate this intense event.
