Apathy: Easy to Talk About, Hard to Fix!

Apathy is a term that is thrown about whenever events are put on that have poor attendance. This week, Robert Shibley, Vice President of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education spoke at the Library about student's right of free speech. This topic is so important that eight people took time out of their busy schedules to attend. This is only one in a series of events which had mediocre attendance. A less serious event, the comedian Tracey Ashley, had a turn out of less than fifty people. Students often complain that there is nothing to do on campus... realistically, there is a lot to do, if you only look for it. The other excuse that is often thrown around is that they didn't know. To help remedy this excuse, we are providing a few resources which will make it easier to keep track of whats going on around campus. First is The Compass events calendar. We do our best to come up with all of the events going on around campus and in the Soo that students would be interested. Another great option is the public posting boards around campus. These boards are in the Cisler Center outside the Quarterdeck, and in many other locations. For more information about where you can find Public Posting boards and about events that are going on, you can call the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development at x2236. If you are looking to get involved in a club, President's Council can help. You can contact them at x2196. Last, but certainly not least, is the LSSU website http://www.lssu.edu which contains a fairly complete calendar of events going on around campus.
