Presidents Council met Monday, February 19. After roll call and approval of minutes, the chairs only announcement was for the Soo Outhouse Race being held on Saturday, March 10, at 6pm. If interested, contact Lee Shirley at 906-635-6973.
Standards Board spoke next, recommending the Psychology Club for full membership. After listening to the club representative speak, the council voted and approved them for full membership. Next, the Dutch Dance Club was recommended for Associate Membership. This, too, was voted on and approved. The Standards chair then reminded the body of those clubs that are currently on probation. ASME, Legal Assistant Association, Ski and Snowboard Club and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee are on temporary probation and ACM, Student Organization for Diversity, Students Expanding Environmental Knowledge and the Superior Swing Dance Club are on full probation.
The meeting moved next to Finance Committee and funding requests. The current budget is $10,817.55 and there were two requests. SIFE spoke first, explaining that they are attending a conference in Chicago and the total cost of their trip is around $2,000. Their request for $912.50 was approved. Mens Club Hockey was requesting $776.40 to attend a tournament in Alpena. The funding was for the entry fee and hotel stay. The club has already raised the rest of the funds needed and their request was also approved.
During the Advisors report, clubs were urged to nominate professors for the Distinguished Teacher Award and to sign up for summer orientation club fairs. It was also announced that the school is currently hiring orientation leaders. Applications are due March 16 and those interested should speak to Karen Johnston at X2269.
There was no unfinished or new business and the only announcements were that the contact information for clubs can be found on the website, under the Presidents Council page and that the next meeting is March 12, at 9pm.
