Presidents Council met for the first time this semester on Monday, January 22. The meeting began with Cortney Jones, the chair, reminding clubs that request forms for funding and new clubs are available in the Presidents Council office, located in the basement of Cisler. Phil Hastings, the Standards chair, announced that there are five clubs currently on temporary probation for not attending meetings. Those clubs are: ASME, ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), SEEK (Students Expanding Environmental Knowledge), SOFD (Student Organization For Diversity), and the Superior Swing Dance Club. Clubs that are pending temporary probation are: Legal Assistants Association, Native American Student Organization, Ski and Snowboard Club and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Hastings added, If your club is pending probation, come to the next Standards meeting at 9pm Monday, January 29 to plead your case and the board will decide if probation is justified. If your club is already on temporary probation, attendance at all Presidents Council meetings is required for one month. If a meeting is missed, the club is up for full probation. If a meeting is missed while on full probation, the club is up for de-recognition. Mollie Hogg, the chair of Finance Committee, announced that she is stepping down from the position because she is moving out of state. Michael Chevalier, the president of the College Republicans and a member of Student Government, was nominated and approved to take over the position. Roberta Payne, the advisor for Presidents Council, passed out club information and contact sheets to be filled out. For clubs that were not at the meeting, she can be reached at X6221.

Amy Chrispell spoke on behalf of Activities Board, reminding clubs that Winter Carnival begins January 27 and Activities Board is looking to co-sponsor or help clubs with events throughout the semester. Jamie Solgat was approved as Operational Manager for Presidents Council, after being nominated for the position when the previous manager stepped down. Bill Whitman gave a presentation about getting commissioned police officers on campus. He answered several questions from members of Presidents Council, such as confirming that there have been problems with non-students on campus. He also explained that although it looks like the number of crimes is going up, [he] doesnt believe thats actually happening; rather, the documenting of crimes has improved and Campus Security is doing a better job of accurately reporting whats going on. Mr. Whitman can be reached at X2721 or bwhitman@lssu.edu to schedule meetings with clubs to discuss this possible change. The only two announcements were that Alpha Theta Omega is sponsoring a night at the Back Door on February 1, so see one of the sisters for passes and the Nursing Association is holding a Blood Drive, also on February 1, so stop by to donate.
