Tuesday March 20, 2007 Lake Superior State University held it's 36th annual Snowman Burning which was hosted by Student Government. The theme this year was titled Burning the Chains of Poverty to go along with Diversity Week sponsored by Student Government and the Honors Program. The snowman is burned each year to welcome spring onto LSSU's campus and was started by the former Unicorn Hunters of Lake Superior State College. Our snowman burning is a take off of a German tradition that was started during the Rose Sunday Festival. Bill Rabe, former public relations director who retired in 1987 brought this lighthearted event to campus. Grilled hotdogs as well as an open mic were provided. This event was open to students, staff and faculty of Lake State as well as members of the Sault Ste. Marie community.
