Jason Swedene
Dr. Jason Swedene, Assistant Professor in the Department of Arts and Letters, grew up in Buffalo, New York, and graduated from the University of Buffalo in 2002 with a PhD in Philosophy. After graduating, Swedene came to LSSU to teach, because Michigan had always appealed to him and he preferred working at a smaller school.
He instructs students in courses such as Humanities, Logic, Ancient Philosophy, Ethics, and other Humanities and Philosophy related classes. In addition, he serves as the Director of LSSUs Honors Program.
Along with teaching and acting as the Honors Director, he is a member of the Performing Arts Grant Committee for the Arts Center. He is also a part of the Advisory Board for the Newman Center, located just across the street from campus.
In his free time, Swedene loves writing songs and is currently working on a book about immortality. His book stems from his research interest in immortality and ethics. He also enjoys playing racquet ball with fellow professors and laughing with friends.
His goals are to continually improve his teaching and writing skills using the experiences he has gained while here at LSSU. When asked what he finds most satisfying about teaching, Swedene replied, when students can critically question what they have learned in my classes and challenge me.
