WLSO Presents The Failure in Drowning and Homeland Insecurity
Kevin Kainula
The Failure In Drowning is the new album by the West Coast hardcore metal band Scars of Tomorrow. Emerging in 2000 from Orange County, California their first album was released in 2002. After releasing another album they were signed with Victory Records. Having toured with Atreyu, Norma Jean, and Himsa these OC rockers have made an impact in the metal world. When asked, Mike Milford said he has never watched an episode of the OC on television. They are a relentless force to be dealt with as well as collecting a large fan base over the time spent touring for four years. The press has not been shy about Scars of Tomorrow either with features in Revolver, Metal Maniacs, Alternative Press, and AMP. Music videos are usually featured on MTV2 Headbangers Ball. During a phone interview the singer Mike Milford said that the song The Unwinding was the easiest to write because while practicing the ideas were flowing. Scars feature a very ferocious and hardcore savagery style of metal music that falls no where short of keep that title. The Failure in Drowning is an excellent album with tracks such as Broken Silence, Lost in the Moment, and The Silence of Sorrows show that this band is hardcore.
Endwell recently put forth their debut album entitled Homeland Insecurity. Having the chance to interview these rockers I couldn't resist. These fine young men, and by young I mean some of the members are not far from the drinking age, were a fun time. Being in their early twenties and in a band they say they would not trade it for anything. While doing the interview they passed the phone to a different band member for every question to change it up. These men were truly polite as they answered every question thoroughly and would not stop thanking me for playing their music at WLSO. When they were starting out on their way to Chicago to show what they had for Victory Records they were in a car crash. It was the scariest thing they ever had experienced. They of course recovered quickly from it, then got signed by Victory there is nothing that can stop them now. The song Single and Loving It was written by the single members of the band. The taken members told how it was difficult to have girlfriends in a long distance relationship but they told how they loved the presents the band brought back for them when they come back from touring. So what does the album title mean? Well they explained that it was to show how many people are insecure with themselves and life. Asked if it had anything to do with the Homeland Security department they said part of it and how restrictive they are becoming. The Endwell guys have recorded a very well pieced together collection of songs to make this record rock your speakers. This weeks dual feature was made possible by Victory Records for setting up phone interviews and you can visit Victory on the web to see other bands like these two.
