A LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I have spent my entire college career at Lake Superior State University. I have worked for or been associated with nearly every department on campus, and I have found one common denominator in every department; a complete reluctance to work together. Despite its many faults and short comings, I have become very fond of Lake State, and want to see it succeed. Lake State has been a huge part of my family for over a decade now, with every one of my siblings attending this University. In the past decade, I have seen this University become only a shadow of its former self.

Its quite apparent that Lake State is enduring some hard times, and the employee reaction to the hard times is to undermine and cut down their co-workers in order to make sure their head isnt the next on the chopping block. Im not saying that every employee is guilty of this, but there are far more who are than arent. I have seen a number of employees who go above and beyond what is required of them, but their legs are quickly cut out from underneath them by co-workers who almost seem to have become happy with the state of distress that Lake State has found itself in. As if it isnt enough to not encourage their co-workers or support them, but they have to go that extra step and sabotage the efforts that are being made to improve Lake State. Too many employees at Lake State are afraid of change. So Ill ask you this question: What happens if nothing changes? The answer is NOTHING. And at the current decline that I have seen Lake State stuck in I encourage Lake State employees to look for a change; doing nothing will not fix Lake State.

I implore the members of the Lake State family to bond together for your sake and for your co-workers. Just remember that we all depend on each other at Lake State, if were not going to help each other we all will fail.
