The Board of Trustees met Friday, September 22, to discuss several issues. After approving the minutes from the last meeting and a few opening remarks, the meeting began.

Deb McPherson, chair of the Department of Recreation Studies and Exercise Science, gave a presentation on her department, including its history, current degrees offered, community outreach, highlights of initiatives and accomplishments; current and future goals and objectives. The presentation was well received by board members.

After a few brief remarks by the chair and Dr. Youngblood, the meeting moved on to committee reports. The Academic Affairs committee had one action item to vote on. 225 students completed graduation requirements in July 2006 and the resolution was to confer degrees upon them. The resolution passed. Next was the Student Affairs Committee, who had one action item. This was the Resolution for Designation of the National Incident Management System as the Basis for all Incident Management. As Bill Whitman explained, this resolution basically states that the university will use the language standardized by Homeland Security when responding to emergencies. After much explanation and debate, the resolution passed. The Finance Committee had two action items. The first was that the deficit in the general fund is down to $700,000 after receiving $400,000 in revenues. Dr. LaJoie, head of the committee said that they are expecting a fairly good year; enrollment held steadywhich is a significant impact. The second item was the Capital Outlay Request, which reaffirmed that the new building for the business department is the universitys top priority this year. Both items were passed. The Development Committees only action item was that the university received $136,794.47 from various sources, such as alumni donations and grants from organizations. The resolution to accept this money passed without opposition.

The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held in November 17, 2006 at 9:00 am and all students are invited to attend.
