Greek Life 101

Have you ever thought about joining a student group on campus but not sure which direction to go? Well why dont you try going Greek? Greek Life is not just a party or walking around in preppy clothes, in fact it is not that at all. Greek Life gives you the opportunity to get involved on campus and off, make life long friends, and take part in fundraisers, community service, and network throughout the campus of Lake Superior State, not to mention a great way to meet new people. At Lake Superior State University there are seven Greek organizations, four Fraternities and three Sororities. A fraternity is a Greek organization that is all males; a sorority is a Greek organization that is composed of all females. Now how does one get to join a Greek Organization, well Rush of course! Rush started on Sunday, September 17th and runs through October 1st. Rush is a time, two weeks of every semester, that allows Greek organizations to put on events for any student to attend that allows that student to get a look at that Greek organization and decide if it something that he or she is interested in doing. Rush Flyers are posted all around campus so keep and eye out for them. Once Rush is over, the Fraternity or Sorority gives out Bids. Bids are invitations that allow the student to come and pledge that particular Fraternity or Sorority. Now pledge may seem like a scary word but it really is not. Pledging is a process in which the student is educated about the fraternity or sorority to which he or she is pledging. Pledging often consists of community service and pledge events. Again there are seven Greek organizations in total, four fraternities and 3 sororities; here is some information about all seven:
