The LSSU Chess Club has had a busy semester sending club members to compete in six tournaments the chess team has had various victories and defeats this year.  



	The competition started in early January with Alex Strobehn winning 1st U1200 at the Genesee County Quick Swiss.  Just three shorts days later, Nathan Niznik won 1st unrated at the Michigan Class/Master Championship.  The following weekend the chess team traveled to Wisconsin to compete in the North Eastern Open.  Alex Strobehn finished 2nd place overall.  To finish off January, the LSSU Chess Club sponsored the LSSU Spring Chess Championship.  The reigning champion Brandon Caruso defeated Alex Strobehn to hold onto his title.  Then in February the chess team competed in both the Cheboygan and Petoskey Opens.  Alex Strobehn finished 2nd at the Petoskey Open.  Then the LSSU chess team played a 3 on 3 match against Cheboygan H.S.  LSSU defeated Cheboygan with a score of 5  to .  Board 1 Brandon Caruso scored 2 points.  Board 2 Alex Strobehn scored 1  points.  Board 3 Nathan Niznik scored 2 points.



	The LSSU Chess Club has indeed had a busy semester and there is more to come.  On March 31st the LSSU Chess Club is holding the Lake Superior Open which will be the first tournament in the clubs history open to the public, more information will be posted later.  Also, the chess club is organizing a team for intercollegiate competition.  If you are interested, the club asks you to contact president Alex Strobehn.  Even if you dont know the game well, the chess club would like to invite you to come and play, after all, chess is just a game, and games are meant to have fun.
