Project Description
I am working with Dr. Nina H. Fefferman on modeling how the evolution of influenza is affected by HIV. HIV attacks the cells of the immune system, and a weakened immune system changes the "environment" other diseases compete in. Influenza is a virus that mutates relatively quickly, resulting in the emergence of new strains within individuals and populations. The goal of the project is to develop mathematical models to describe how HIV changes the emergence of new influenza strains in individuals and in populations.
